About

Antoni Katski (1816-1899) – an excellent pianist (he gave concerts in almost every European country, but also in the United States, India, Australia, New Zealand, China, or Japan), prolific composer (author of over 400 opuses), educator, animator of musical life, representative of a musically talented family, a multidimensional artist, enjoying fame and recognition in Europe, who, despite his enormous influence on the development of the 19th-century musical culture, is now completely forgotten, both in Poland and worldwide.

With this CD, an outstanding pianist of young generation, Anna Parkita, introduces the work of one of the most important ambassadors of the music of Polish Romantic period. Two piano sonatas presented on the album (in F major, op.156, and in F minor, op.310) are a testimony to Antoni Katski’s thorough musical education and compositional skills.

The sonatas abound with the most characteristic features of the composer’s musical language; at the same time, they contain a whole range of expressive means of the epoch in which he lived.
