Two combined ensembles, Collegium 1704 and Collegium Vocale 1704, conducted by Václav Luks, presented two very special sacred works: Luigi Cherubini’s Requiem in C minor for mixed choir and orchestra, first performed in Paris on the anniversary of the death of King Louis XVI in 1816, and Karol Kurpiński’s Te Deum composed for the solemnity of coronation of Tsar Nicholas I the King of Poland, which premiered under the composer in front of the Tsar in Warsaw in 1829.
Beautiful yet rarely performed works from the time of Chopin in consummate interpretations by musicians specialising in historically informed performance.
