Danish jazz orchestra leader, trumpeter and composer Ib Glindemann(1934-2019) stands out as one the most significant figures in the history of jazz in Denmark.
Ib Glindemann explored the variety of musical genres - big band jazz, film music and ‘library music’. But he also had a classical side and an ambition to be a ‘serious’ composer.
This album presents a classical Glindemann programme: his frequently performed Trumpet Concerto and the Trombone Concerto from 2017, written in collaboration with Odense Symphony Orchestra and soloist Robert Holmsted.
The Medley is a gathering of four pieces into a suite, arranged by Glindemann and Wolfgang Käfer. The pieces collected here come from films or from the world of programme music, evoking pictures of everyday life in Copenhagen.
The album is recorded by Odense Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Giordano Bellincampi, with soloists Per Morten Bye and Robert Holmsted.
