An extended Christmas album from Jonas Kaufmann, one of the world’s most acclaimed and celebrated tenors. After the success of the star tenor’s 2020 Christmas album, which went gold in several European classical charts, we’re issuing an extended edition with SEVEN newly recorded songs.

Six of the new songs are Bavarian alpine Christmas folksongs, sung as duets with mezzo-soprano Stefani Irányi with the original accompaniment of violin, dulcimer, harp, clarinet and double bass. Also featured is the French Christmas song “Trois Anges”, which Kaufmann’s colleague Ludovic Tézier introduced him to.

Similar to last year’s album, the tracklist mixes both German and international repertoire. As ever, Kaufmann shows his versatility across 49 songs from around the world, covering an impressive variety of languages and musical styles ranging from church hymns, swinging jazzband numbers, pop hits through to intimate folksongs accompanied by charming folksong ensemble.

The European Christmas tour delayed from last year is scheduled to go ahead in December 2021, which will coincide with the album. Last year’s ZDF TV special – “Christmas with Jonas Kaufmann” – is currently being sold internationally by C Major (in English). Kaufmann’s latest non-Christmas release, Liszt: Freudvoll und Leidvoll, received a wealth of five-star reviews, and was described as ‘an operatic feast’ by The Times. In the New York Times, he was described as ‘a box-office draw, and... the most important, versatile tenor of his generation’.
