This recording retains the impact that is often lost during a broadcast of a performance. It’s the pre-Christmas programme from the Munich Sunday Concert Series featuring Helen Donath, one of the most distinguished lyric sopranos of her time, the Regensburg Cathedral Boys Choir (the ‘Sparrows’) and the Munich Radio Orchestra under the musical direction of Kurt Eichhorn.

On this special occasion, recorded live in 1988, the programme comprises excerpts from Handel’s Messiah, Corelli’s Concerto grosso, op.6 no.8 ‘Concerto per la notte di natale’, Mozart’s motet Ave verum corpus, K618, and his Laudate Dominum from the Vesperae solennes de confessore, K339, a group of mostly 17th- and 18th- century Christmas carols performed a cappella by the Regensburg Cathedral Boys Choir and Mozart’s Exsultate, jubilate, K165.
