Performed here by Ensemble Vibrations, this new CD presents Telemann's 12 Fantasias for solo flute (arranged for flute quartet).

Of the few musicians who were so greatly acclaimed during their lifetime that they outshone their contemporaries, none have been so profoundly and unjustly forgotten as Georg Philipp Telemann: Romain Rolland pointed out a little over a century ago that posterity has paid dearly for Telemann's insolent victory over Bach while alive; he added that Telemann's music had been admired throughout Europe, from France to Russia, but that after his death it had been forgotten and disdained. This situation seems fortunately to have changed today, even if our knowledge of Telemann's plethora of works remains fragmentary; Telemann, towards the end of his life, was no longer able to compile a list of the works he had written.

Ensemble Vibrations was born from Pascale Simon's desire to bring together musicians from different musical backgrounds in order to explore and build a varied and open repertoire. The current core consists of 7 flautists: Philippe Laloy, Pascale Simon, Audrey Ribaucourt, Lydie Thonnard, Eric Leleux, Fabien Bogaert and Myriam Graulus.

The repertoire of the Ensemble Vibrations – whose name is taken from a composition for 10 flutes and percussion by Jean-Marie Rens – is continually enriched with original or transcribed works. Their varied programmes travel through eras and styles and make contemporary writing (Jean-Marie Rens, Arnould Massart, Jean-Luc Fafchamps) coexist with baroque music (G.P. Telemann, Buxtehude), traditional melodies (Romanian, Turkish, Swedish,...) with jazz (Bill Frisell, Steve Kuhn).
