About
Frey and Grisvard present a programme for recorder and harpsichord that exploits the tonal and interpretative registers of these two instruments. The programme takes the listener on a wonderful journey across Baroque Italy and highlights varying compositions written for recorder and basso continuo. Some of the great music centres of the time – Milan, Venice and Naples – are visited and let the listener immerse themselves in a bygone era. In these centres, various styles emerged, now known as the "Venetian School" and the "Neapolitan School", which ultimately led to the "gallant style". Great influences of Arcangelo Corelli's compositional style can also be heard in some of the sonatas of the programme.
The present programme consists exclusively of works that are available in an original historical manuscript. The manuscripts are now scattered in numerous libraries across Europe to the USA – and yet they all have one thing in common: they contain wonderful sonatas for recorder and basso continuo, all composed in Italy within 30 years.
Sabrina Frey is described as "open-minded, innovative and interesting", is known for her unique, soft sound and shapes the character of the recorder of our time. As a musician, she has been honoured with international prizes and awards.
Philippe Grisvard is one of the leading harpsichordists of the Baroque scene, who travels with well-known ensembles in the major concert halls. As a conductor he conducts his own opera productions.
