About

This CD presents the legendary American violinist Aaron Rosand’s first recordings. Made for Vox in 1956, Rosand’s interpretations of Brahms’s Violin Sonata no.1 in G and no.2 in A have not been available since their initial short-lived release on LP in 1956. Partnered with the American pianist Eileen Flissler, these heartfelt interpretations display the young Rosand at the beginning of his remarkable career which spanned over seven decades. Also included are Rosand and Flissler’s recordings of Beethoven’s three independent works for violin and piano. Although, the composer’s ten sonatas were re-issued on CD, the shorter works, recorded in 1961, have never appeared until now.

The two Brahms sonatas were recorded in 1956 and first released on Vox PL 10.090; the Beethoven works were recorded in 1961 and first released on Vox SVBX-518F.
