About

Following the album featuring the Cello Concerto 'Canti Amadei' by Krzysztof Meyer (DUX1803), Bartosz Koziak releases another CD, this time with music by Bohuslav Martinů.

This is yet another studio meeting of the Polish cellist with Martinů's music after the very well-received recording of the composer's Duo for Violin and Cello with Anna Maria Staśkiewicz.

'Regarding the history of music or art in general, there are always some dramatic circumstances, either objective or subjective, surrounding the creative process. Sometimes, circumstances create an obvious response in a work, sometimes the opposite. […] The musician is a sort of conservator-restorer, but he tries to restore the composer's feelings and thoughts of his inner life rather than anything else. I always try to follow artistic conceptions more than anything else. […] I find the Second Sonata brilliant and colourful but, at the same time, a serious work of art. The collage of Czech music and jazz influences are particularly apparent in this work, as it is one of first he completed in US.' – Bartosz Koziak

Described as a 'visionary and poet of the cello', Bartosz Koziak has gained the acclaim of music lovers and critics not only for his extraordinary interpretation of works by both classical and contemporary composers but also for his thoughtful and often daring programme choices. His discography includes recordings of Grażyna Bacewicz's Second Cello Concerto, Krzysztof Meyer's Cello Concerto Canti Amadei and the premiere recording of Feliks Nowowiejski's Cello Concerto (DUX).

He has performed at the Konzerthaus in Berlin, Rudolfinum in Prague, Cité de la Musique in Paris, Teatro Politeama in Palermo, the Khachaturian Concert Hall in Yerevan and the National Philharmonic in Warsaw. He has performed with, amongst many, the National Philharmonic in Warsaw, NOSPR and the Prague Philharmonic, the Radio Orchestras in Warsaw and Budapest.

Reviews

the Sonata is every bit as ‘brilliant and colourful’ as Koziak describes in his booklet notes, confidently performed by musicians perfectly in sync.
