About

This new release from duoAccosphere, New Accordion Chamber Music reflects the ensemble's prolific activity in the field of contemporary music.

The works featured on the CD have been created in recent years as part of direct collaborations between the musicians, and the composers who have dedicated their works to them. This collection includes both compositions for two accordions, and those that complement this ensemble with other instruments.

The opening piece, In a Moment... (2018) by Peter Machajdík, is the first fruit of the composer's cooperation with the performers. The title of the composition was drawn from two poems: Still and Moment. Its course confirms the composer's interest in minimalist patterns affecting the shape of the texture and the musical narrative.

The second piece for accordion duo is the diptych Of Sisyphus and Prometheus – two instructive myths (2018) by one of the most important contemporary Eastern European composers writing for accordion: Volodymyr Runchak, whose interdisciplinary education, also associated with playing the accordion and conducting, often translates into the form of his output.

Find also The Ray of Ultimate Whiteness (2018) by Wojciech Ziemowit Zych, which is the first piece in the history of music for accordion duo and string quartet; The Tears of St Lawrence (Perseids) (2018) by Latvian composer Renate Stivrina, also for accordion duo and string quartet; and The Testament of Wounds (2018–2019) by Grzegorz Majka for solo voices (mezzo-soprano, baritone), accordion duo and a sonoristic layer. The album is closed with Tyler Versluis's Quintet (2021) for accordion duo and reed trio.
