About
Out of the composer's rich vocal works, further songs were selected, many of which receive their world-premiere recordings on this disc. Maszyński was particularly associated with the artistic life of Warsaw – it was there that he created, worked in institutions promoting culture (he was, among others, director of the Opera) and founded the "Lutnia" Singing Society.
He preferred songs accompanied by the piano, most often solo, but also duets, which can be heard on the album. Song is a special artistic medium – it combines music and poetry, sensitivity to words with a sense of melody.
The times in which Maszyński composed were exceptionally conducive to such an expression, still embedded in the spirit of neo-romantic sensitivity. At the same time, the composer would search for topics in various aspects of the surrounding reality, translated into lyrics by contemporary poets.
Performers on this recording: Agnieszka Rehlis (mezzo-soprano), Liliana Zalesińska (mezzo-soprano) and Anna Simińska (soprano). They are accompanied by pianist Jolanta Pszczółkowska-Pawlik.
