About

ATMA Classique is delighted to present Anguille sous roche (Something Fishy), the first recording by the latest incarnation of renowned viol duo Les Voix humaines. The new pairing consists of Mélisande Corriveau, who succeeds the duo's cofounder Margaret Little, and Susie Napper. Corriveau and Napper have performed together for two decades as members of Les Voix humaines Consort. Both play on historic viols by London luthier, Barak Norman.

Anguille sous roche features delicacies from the French repertoire that are infused with humour, virtuosity, and tenderness. Works for two viols by quintessential French baroque composers Couperin, Marais, and Rameau capture the witty sensitivity that was unique to this period. In their suites of pieces for viols, these composers offer listeners an array of unusual, fleeting, and almost surreal connections.

Les Voix humaines bring flair and brilliance to their performances, building upon decades of performances worldwide by Susie Napper and Margaret Little, whose musical complicity was legendary. Their many prizes and recordings are the foundation upon which the new duo with Mélisande Corriveau will build a creative repertoire and innovative style to inspire a new generation of music-lovers.
