Julia Wacker (harp)About
The harp is a unique instrument in many ways. With its unmistakable sound and its specific playing technique, the expertise of the performers is indispensable for composers who rarely come from the harp. In the best-case scenario, both sides win from this exchange: the composition receives inspiration from the possibilities of the instrument and playing practice opens up new facets for the instrument.
Julia Wacker's album shows particularly happy examples of such an exchange. Each of these 20th-century pieces showcases the rich and often surprising sides of the harp.
Julia Wacker is one of the most innovative harpists of her generation and brings the harp into the 21st century with the utmost respect for tradition. Her humorous adaptation of The Flight of the Bumblebee caused a stir, and her first extraordinary CD "Edgar Allan Poe and the Harp" received a lot of praise and was nominated several times for the Opus Klassik Prize in 2021. In this sense, the present solo CD is to be understood as a homage to the past.
