About

Although Emil Friis and Patricio Fraile's renown is mainly sourced from a plethora of film and TV scores, the Danish composer duo use alternative approaches to make this contemporary classical opus equally bold. Here, rather than the sampling which is at the heart of their scores, they more heavily prioritise piano, with other accoutrements delicately intertwined to gild the album's meditative emotional spectrum: a string quartet was recorded in Sweden; cello was contributed from London by Joe Zeitlin; lastly, field recordings and the composers's ambient prowess made the record truly absorbing. An immersive collaboration that sparked compositions as scenic as the associated album artwork, The Expected Sounds of Minor Music combines the instinctive, self-taught style of Friis and the rich, studied imprint of Fraile's multi-instrumentalist background.
