About

Presenting Divine Art Records' monumental 700th release, “John Boyden, a Celebration”. This exceptional album not only showcases a mesmerising new recording of Schubert's Piano Quintet in A major, D667 (“Die Forelle/The Trout”) by the renowned John Boyden’s New Queen’s Hall Orchestra players but also features two legendary reissued recordings. Among them, John Lill's interpretation of Beethoven’s Piano Sonata no.21 in C major, op.53 (“Waldstein”), originally released on Enigma and later ASV (1976), and Ian Partridge's rendition of Schubert's Die schöne Müllerin, D795, initially launched on Classics for Pleasure (1973).

This exclusive release serves as a tribute to John Boyden, a luminary in the classical music realm, whose illustrious journey commenced in the recording industry. John, an executive and distinguished producer, achieved ground-breaking success with Classics for Pleasure, selling an astounding four million classical recordings in just four years. Subsequently, he took on the pivotal role of the inaugural Managing Director of the London Symphony Orchestra during a challenging phase in its history. John's contributions continued as he founded multiple independent classical record companies and established the New Queen’s Hall Orchestra, dedicated to reviving early twentieth-century performance styles.

“John Boyden, a Celebration” not only honours this remarkable figure but also presents two iconic recordings produced by him, adding depth to the album's significance. The captivating performance of Schubert's Piano Quintet by the New Queen’s Hall Orchestra ensures that this release becomes a timeless tribute to John Boyden's enduring impact on classical music.

Dedicated with kind permission to H.M. The Queen, the Patron of the New Queen’s Hall Orchestra, this album stands as a testament to the profound and lasting influence of John Boyden's contributions to the world of classical music, ensuring his legacy resonates with classical music enthusiasts.
