2023 marked the 150th anniversary of the birth of twentieth-century composer Sergei Rachmaninov, whose work is beloved for its breathtaking drama, absolute passion and the extraordinary technical sophistication.
In the piano repertoire there might be no more challenging task than performing Rachmaninov’s complete piano concertos – nor an artist more up to this task than the great Mikhail Pletnev.
Rounding out this concert is legendary maestro Kent Nagano, who leads Pletnev and his ensemble with his usual deft hand and the unshakeable confidence required to unify these monumental works.
This is the second release and the first public concert of the newly founded Rachmaninoff International Orchestra, which is named after the composer, pianist and conductor, Sergei Rachmaninov. Like its namesake the Rachmaninoff International Orchestra is committed to achieving artistic excellence.
