Ian HobsonAbout
‘For a first recording of undervalued works such as these, it is crucial that they be introduced to the music-loving public in splendid fashion, which indeed they are in these performances by Hobson and his colleagues in the Sinfonia Varsovia. The music is invariably well paced and technically precise making for a most rewarding listening experience. Toccata’s usual scholarly notes (in this case by William Melton) will also be of great interest to those interested in knowing more about this Austrian master. The disc receives a solid recommendation from me all around.’ – David DeBoor Canfield, Fanfare, on Vol.1 (TOCC0468)
Reviews
Richard Stohr’s 1912 Chamber Symphony is the most inspired Stohr work I’ve heard—one good, memorable theme after another. Furthermore, the themes have attractive counter-melodies in a profusion worthy of Dvorak. ... The recorded sound is just right for the music, and William Melton’s notes are, as usual superb.
