Sheng Cai (piano)About
Through this programme, Sheng Cai highlights the expressive richness and poetic depth of Tchaikovsky’s piano writing, often overshadowed by his symphonies and concertos. His interpretations combine virtuosity and sensitivity in a vibrant homage where Russian melancholy, folkloric energy, and orchestral grandeur transposed to the piano intertwine.
Canadian pianist Sheng Cai, praised by international critics for his powerful yet refined playing, is recognised as one of the leading interpreters of the Romantic repertoire. Trained at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, the Juilliard School, and the New England Conservatory, he has been described in the press as an artist combining “inner passion with Rubinstein-like nonchalance” (Thüringer Allgemeine). His career has taken him to major stages around the world, where he has distinguished himself both as a soloist and a chamber musician.
