About

Rodgers and Hart were the songwriting team comprising Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart, who worked together on about thirty musicals from 1919 until Hart's death in 1943. Their breakthrough came in 1925 with The Garrick Gaieties, which featured the hit song Manhattan, featured on this new release.

Their many other hits include Mountain Greenery, The Blue Room, My Heart Stood Still, and The Lady Is A Tramp, all of which can be enjoyed here. Their songs have long been favourites of cabaret singers and jazz artists.

Hart's smart and sometimes touching lyrics helped introduce vernacular into Broadway song. Rodgers, as a creator of melodies, ranks with Jerome Kern and Irving Berlin; if Rodgers had never worked with anyone else, he'd still be remembered as one of the top contributors to the Great American Songbook.
