About

Inaugurated in 1878 and carefully modernized in 1914, the organ in the Tallinn Cathedral in Estonia, is an absolutely magnificent synthesis of romantic sound principles. Built by Friedrich Ladegast and enlarged by Wilhelm Sauer, this splendid instrument has remained practically unchanged since 1914, and its superbly beautiful sound ranks it with the best of all romantic organs.

The composers represented on this recording also mark the transition from one era to the next. While Brahms and Liszt are mighty exponents of the 19th century, Karg-Elert and Reger point to the future. Hoyer and Karindi are known to have performed on the Tallinn instrument.
