Frieder BerniusAbout
Brahms’s approach to ensemble lieder is a great deal more sophisticated that that of his predecessors; he was involved with the genre from 1859 to 1891, almost as long as he was involved with solo lieder. Brahms considerably raised the demands made on performers. Instead of representing middle-class domestic music, the lieder are now realizable only by well prepared and trained singers after intensive rehearsal.
Stuttgart-born, Frieder Bernius is one of Germany's most versatile conductors. He is interested in breaking through long-established interpretational traditions and concentrating on the original performance styles. In this endeavour, Bernius primarily works with the ensembles he himself founded: the Stuttgart Chamber Choir, the Stuttgart Baroque Orchestra and the Stuttgart Classical Philharmonic.
