About

Recordings made in 1967 (Symphony) and 1970 (Fatum) by the internationally acclaimed pairing of the USSR Symphony Orchestra conducted by Evgeny Svetlanov.  Utilising the same forces, this CD adds a recording of Capriccio Italien from 1987, making this a unique record of their performances.

The Fourth Symphony was composed between May and December 1877, first performed in February 1878 and belongs to his ‘black’ cycle of compositions. The Capriccio Italien makes a good contrast therefore with its abundance of lively musical colours and flavours of Italy inspired by Tchaikovsky’s time there in 1879.
