About
Included is music from various concertos including Concierto de Aranjuez and Fantasía para un gentilhombre, as well as orchestral and choral works, guitar solos, and piano pieces, presenting a vivid selection of Rodrigo’s compositions from 1923 until 1982.
Joaquín Rodrigo (1901–1999) was a prolific composer whose remarkable guitar concerto, the famous Concierto de Aranjuez, brought Spanish music to the attention of a wide international public. Yet Rodrigo deserves appreciation for many masterpieces among his output of nearly 200 compositions.
These CDs encompass a representative selection of his music, illustrating the immense variety and quality of the orchestral, choral and instrumental pieces written over the course of a long artistic career.
Combined with an essay by Graham Wade, author of the first Rodrigo biography in the English language, this provides an excellent portrait of one of the greatest twentieth-century Spanish composers.
