About
Recorded right after their critically acclaimed Salzburg concert of August 2007, this will certainly be considered a benchmark recording, an exciting addition to the Virgin Classics catalogue and a joy to their many fans waiting for them to commit these works to disc.
Widely regarded as a masterpiece, both among Schubert’s many compositions as well as in the entire chamber music repertory, the C major "Two Cello Quintet" was composed in what were to be the last remaining months of his short life, and stands out for its unconventional instrumentation with two cellos instead of the customary two violas. The work is coupled with Schubert’s twelfth string quartet, the Quartettsatz, which remains one of the composer’s most popular of his fifteen quartets.
Artemis Quartet:
- Natalia Prischepenko, violin
- Gregor Sigl, violin
- Friedemann Weigle, viola
- Eckart Runge cello
