About
From contempt to respect, from mistrust to attraction, from ignorance to sharing, it has taken nearly a century for musicians to consent to combine their specific talents. The issue here is not jazz and dance-hall waltzes, but rather memory and improvisation.
Memory, that common memory which reminds us that, when we were teenagers, we all listened to the same musics, anything and everything. Improvisation, that liberty to be and play what we are today. Gérard Lesne likes Monteverdi, he also likes Pink Floyd, Massive Attack and Miles Davis; Bruno Angelini likes Miles Davis, he also likes Olivier Messiaen, Caetano Veloso and Steve Reich; Ramon Lopez likes Steve Reich, he also likes Camarón, Ali Akbar Khan and John Coltrane; Jean-Philippe Viret likes John Coltrane, he also likes Tom Jobim, Debussy and . . . Monteverdi.
Genesis of the project: In the beginning were the themes, inspired, evocative; then came the colours, primary, secondary, warm or cold; then, as if naturally, the pictures took their place in this improbable alchemy; then the assembled words, modern haikus, became inseparable companions to the melodies of Bruno and Jean-Philippe - thanks, Ramon, for your rhythmic poetry (Gérard Lesne)
