John GreavesAbout
Taking the love poems of Paul Verlaine, Greaves’ music is a haunting mix of post-rock, jazz and chamber music, with Greaves’ baritone taking centre stage.
John Greaves is something of an enigma. Apart from his solo career, he has played bass with Michael Nyman, sung opera with Jack Bruce, collaborated with Robert Wyatt and Carla Bley and played piano with Robert Crumb. His improvising band with Elton Dean was described by The Guardian as “the free-jazz equivalent of early Who”.
As composer/songwriter/singer, in the last two decades he has produced a stack of albums that are strangely wonderful and wonderfully strange, indefinable and timeless.
