Henning Kraggerud (violin)About
Each of Ysa˙e’s solo sonatas is dedicated to a younger outstanding violinist. Not only do they bear the dedications of Joseph Szigeti, Jacques Thibaud, Georges Enescu, Fritz Kreisler, Mathieu Crickboom and Manuel Quiroga, they also contain numerous more or less hidden messages for these interpreters.
Henning Kraggerud was born in 1973 and is one of Scandinavia’s most sought after artists. He performs as a soloist with many of the leading orchestras, both in Europe and in North America, and is increasingly in demand in a play/direct capacity. Henning’s playing is described as fearless, bold and technically brilliant. Through his music he reveals a refreshing, passionate outlook on life and the arts. He has recorded three critically acclaimed CDs for Naxos - Grieg Violin Sonatas (with Helge Kjekshus), a set of Norwegian Pieces for violin and orchestra and the Sibelius and Sinding Violin Concerti with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, which was released in Autumn 2004.
Henning plays here on a 1744 Guarneri del Gesu, an instrument loaned to him for this recording by the “Dextra Musica” fund. The recording itself is part of a series that bears the fund’s name which features talented and internationally acclaimed Norwegian musicians and ensembles performing on some of the very best string instruments in the world.
