About

This album's title is a well-worn cliché in thespian circles, and it perfectly sets the scene for a collection of mostly bright, up-tempo numbers with a theatrical feel.

As one would expect, Irving Berlin's "There's No Business Like Show Business" is featured in a scintillating arrangement by Angela Morley, but the worlds of radio and television are also well represented alongside the cinema and musical theatre.

Other composers who excelled at this type of music include Ivor Slaney, Nacio Herb Brown, Jack Beaver, Eric Rogers, Jack Strachey, Robert Farnon, Sidney Torch, Peter Yorke and Edward White. Many of the works made their debut in the recorded music libraries of leading London music publishers during the middle years of the last century, which was a particularly fruitful period for quality light music expressing a wide variety of moods and styles.
