When listening to the compositions and arrangements of Nils Lindberg, it becomes evident that his musical roots derive from his native Dalarna, the traditional home of Swedish folk music. Traditional melodies are what we find on this new recording that features two suites, Dalecarlian Reflections and Mythological Portraits.
The suite Dalecarlian Reflections is based on seven traditional melodies that have influenced Nils Lindberg over the years and they all have a historical background. Nils Lindberg wrote the suite with the Dala-Sinfoniettan in mind and as a result of their earlier successful collaboration with the piece Mythological Portraits. In 2007 the Dala-Sinfoniettan and Bjarte Engeset gave the first performance of Dalecarlian Reflections.
The suite Mythological Portraits was written for soprano saxophone player Anders Paulsson who, together with Dala-Sinfoniettan, premièred it in 2005. The suite is based on myths and tales heard by Nils Lindberg when he was a child.
