Thomas SanderlingAbout
His Overture on a Russian Theme is based on the same folksong that Rimsky-Korsakov used in his own Fantasy on Russian Themes while the shorter works demonstrate in various ways Taneyev’s scrupulous craftsmanship.
“These strongly characterised performances under Thomas Sanderling suggest that Taneyev’s music does have something to offer, with a personality distinct from that of his fellow countrymen… Sanderling and this highly accomplished orchestra project vividly to make an excellent budget-price introduction to the composer.” The Guardian on 8570336
