About
DDR-citizen Siegfried Lorenz had limited opportunity to travel and was not able to make an international career. On the other hand, Edita Gruberova fled from Czechoslovakia to become a world-famous star. Being predestined for a romantic role in many operas, she also recorded two highly virtuosic Bach cantatas. Siegfried Lorenz did the same in Eastern Berlin, being a member of Berliner Staatsoper Unter den Linden, where he also excelled with a modern repertoire.
The Deutsche Bachsoloisten (West) and the Neue Bachische Collegium Musicum (East) both play on modern instruments.
