Stylistically, the three cantatas of this CD are works of the transition period between the Late Baroque and Early Classic. These three cantatas are all about the subject of change: the metamorphosis of a statue into a human being (“Pygmalion”), the visionary transmutation of the reality into a delusional picture (“Die Amerikanerin“) and the transformation of a human being into a God of the Seas (“Ino”).
Twenty years after their initial release, these representations have not lost a bit of their freshness or stylistic competence.
In June 2008, Hermann Max was awarded the Bach medal of the city of Leipzig for his contribution to the music of Johann Sebastian Bach and his family.
