Many of the bands who carry out ceremonial duties at Windsor Castle are also able to perform to the general public from the new bandstand at Castle Hill. Part of SRC’s ‘Bandstand’ series, this disc features the Band of the Irish Guards giving outstanding performances under their Director of Music Major Stephen Barnwell of works such as von Suppés Poet and Peasant Overture, the Cortège from the ballet Sylvia by Delibes, a number of unusual and attractive marches, film music by John Williams, show music including The Wizard of Oz and a Salute to Richard Rodgers.
This CD is a splendid opportunity to sit back and imagine you are by the bandstand at Windsor castle, listening to one of the world’s great military bands.
