About

Rarely recorded 17th century dance suites from North Germany by Dietrich Becker and Christian Flor, as well as two anonymous works, are here performed by the Dutch based specialist ensemble Musica Poetica.

The group “Musica Poetica” was founded in 1999 by harpsichordist and conductor Jörn Boysen, and is made up of young musicians from all over the world who specialise in early music. They share an interest in performing music from the 17th and 18th centuries with an historically informed perspective, using instruments from that period and historical sources.

Harpsichordist Jörn Boysen was born in Lübeck, Germany, in 1976. Initially he studied at the Musikhochschule Lübeck and later at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague with Tini Mathot and Ton Koopman. Since 2006 he has been director of the Hollands Vocaal Ensemble.

Dietrich Beckers’ collection of North German dance suites entitled ‘Musicalische Frühlings-Früchte’ was published in 1668 and contains sonatas and suites as well as combinations of both forms. The featured works include pieces by Becker himself, as well as three by Christian Flor and two “anonymous” pieces.
