About
The disc focuses on the Fantasies of Messiaen, Schoenberg and Schubert and includes other related pieces. It opens with Messiaen's La Mort du nombre, a piece for violin, piano, soprano and tenor, featuring Rhona McKail and Nicky Spence. As well as the Messiaen Fantaisie, the CD also includes the only other Messiaen work for violin and piano: Thème et variations.
The disc concludes, also vocally, with Schubert's song which formed the basis of his Fantasie, Sei mir gegrüsst!.
This incredible CD is a stunning performance of a fascinating programme.
