About

Yona Ettlinger (Munich May 28, 1924 - London June 24, 1981) settled in Israel at a young age. Though piano was his first love, he took up the clarinet at 17. His principal teacher was the French clarinetist Louis Cahuzac (1880-1960) with whom he developed his remarkably pure tone.

Principal clarinetist with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra from 1947 to 1964, he took conducting engagements with such ensembles as the Israel Chamber Orchestra and the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, and also performed chamber music for many years with the Tel Aviv Quartet, with the pianist Pnina Salzman, and in trio with Pnina Salzman and the cellist Uzi Wiesel.
