About
Gérard Poulet is the son of the violinist and conductor Gaston Poulet, creator of the sonata for violin by – and with – Claude Debussy, conductor of great character and emblematic figure of French musical life of the 20th century.
Gérard Poulet was 10 years old in September 1948 at the Besançon festival created by his father, where he gave his first private concert in front of the Master Georges Enesco, surrounded by Arthur Honegger, Louis Beydts, Marcelle Meyer, Gérard Souzay, Claude Delvincourt, Lotte Schoene, Julius Katchen… At 11, he entered the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, and he left the following year with a first Prize unanimously from the jury. At 18, Gérard Poulet won the 1st Grand Prix of the Paganini competition in Genoa, while continuing to benefit from the teaching of Masters such as Zino Francescatti, Yehudi Menuhin, Nathan Milstein and especially Henryk Szeryng, who considered him as his "spiritual heir".
Gérard Poulet has played regularly with the biggest orchestras, in season and on international tours such as the Paris Orchestra, the National Orchestra of France, the National Orchestras of Strasbourg, Lille, Bordeaux, Lyon, the RAI Torino Orchestra, the Radio Symphony Orchestra - Prague, the Liège Philharmonic Orchestra, the Beijing Symphony Orchestra, the Stuttgart Kammerorchester, etc.
Finally, Gérard Poulet has made numerous recordings for different labels, as a soloist, with orchestra and in chamber music: Lalo, Bartók, Schubert, Franck, Lekeu, Pierné, Debussy, Ravel and Stravinsky, to give just a few examples, and obtained numerous awards and prizes in France and abroad.
