This set contains rare live recordings, which demonstrate Dimitri Mitropoulos’s unique perception and understanding of the composers’ scores.
Mitropoulos was noted as a champion of modern music, he was a genius, modernist and open-minded artist, devoted to making challenging, contemporary works accessible to all
He had an amazing memory and used to conduct the orchestra without a score. He was loved by members of his orchestra. Mitropoulos once said: “I never use a score when conducting my orchestra. Does a lion tamer enter a cage with a book on how to tame a lion?”
For this collection, we have used modern remastering techniques to give the listener the best possible experience whilst endeavouring to keep the artistic significance of the recordings.
