About
In their tonal language and in their basic poetic attitude, the songs by Schubert, Meyerbeer, Spohr, Kreutzer and Lachner are characteristic of the early Romantic self-image. The poets and composers saw the natural phenomena they enthusiastically described as a reflection of their own souls; moreover, nature is also the idealised refuge for the artist misunderstood by his fellow men and the unhappy lover.
The tenor Werner Güra is one of the best-known Lied singers of our time and can look back on an extensive discography. The present recording is his debut on Pan Classics.
